If I'm working on digital, I tend to sketch on the computer from scratch...unless I'm bothered to scan. I use the Ink tool because line thickness variation is good. (Even if it's very subtle). Ctrl+Z and E(raser) is my friend. The mouse is my best friend. I live a sad life.Generally all done on one layer. Because I'm lazy. I'm finished here if I'm doing traditional. Because I'm lazy.
New layer under sketch. Using paintbrush tool, with default round brush, to block in base colour at 100% opacity. (Darker colour than intended...normally. Also pretty low saturation). Increase/Decrease value and increase saturation and change hue when painting shadows/highlights. (two colours at the least for both). Block on the ones closest to the base first at 70~80% opacity. Repeat with colours further away from the base colour at the same opacity. Add colours as I see fit but then I avoid adding new ones after until I decide to touch up. Reduce brush opacity to somewhere 30~50%. Colour drop like there is no tomorrow. (THAT'S RIGHT. MASH THAT CTRL BUTTON) THOUGH I make sure that the "shape" is not fully smoothed out. It's happened before and my work looks like a waxy apple minus the shine and plus the pigmentation. I like visible brushstrokes too.No one will get this long winded explanation. Feel free to ignore this whole section.
Almost always finished at the colouring stage. Sometimes I fidget with Brightness/Contrast.I may or may not change the layer mode of the sketch. Then instantly upload to dA/tumblr because I'm eager to infect the 'net with rainbow spew.
